Community Safety in Oakland Chinatown

Safety remains a top priority in Oakland Chinatown. In recent years, many Oakland neighborhoods have seen a rise in crime and violence. The Oakland Chinatown Improvement Council (OCIC) works closely with the City of Oakland, the Oakland Police Department (OPD), and public safety programs like MACRO to support the well-being of the community.

Local groups, such as the Toishan Benevolent Association, also play a key role in neighborhood safety by walking the area daily and reporting incidents to OPD and MACRO.

To further enhance security, OCIC partnered with DLS Corp in early 2023 to provide overnight neighborhood patrols. The private security team monitors the area every night, seven days a week, helping deter crime and promote peace of mind for residents and businesses.
