 SAVE THE DATE!

FEBRUARY 18, 2024

11 AM

2nd Annual OCIC Lunar New Year Parade

Our 2023 parade was Oakland Chinatown's first Lunar New Year Parade in more than 50 years, and we aim to continue that tradition. We're working to make the 2024 a more special event! Bring your enthusiasm, come dressed in your most festive outfits, and support the community!

Mark your calendars to join us on February 18, 2024! The parade starts at 11AM.  Stay after the parade procession to watch some of the participating groups perform at the grandstand at 1PM. We will also give away a special  prize to a lucky attendee.

PARADE ROUTE

Pick your spot! The Parade will begin and end at WILMA CHAN PARK. There will be plenty of opportunities to cheer on the participants. There isn't a bad place to watch the parade, but here's a map, just in case you want to stake out your spot.

Live Music and More

Join us after the parade for an exciting street festival in the heart of Oakland Chinatown! Enjoy shopping from local small businesses, delicious food from our diverse lineup of food vendors, and live performances featuring Bay Area local Seiji Oda, our main act, will keep you grooving all afternoon.  Don't miss out on this vibrant celebration of culture and community—stay with us for a day of fun, food, and entertainment!

THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON

The Year of the Dragon begins February 10, 2024 and lasts until January 28, 2025. The dragon symbolizes power, nobleness, honor, luck, and success.

People born in the Year of the Dragon tend to be full of fighting spirit and strength. They tend to be charismatic, independent, and ambitious.

Considered one of the luckiest symbols, the Year of the Dragon predicts a year of notable achievements and success in new ventures and goals.

The Chinese zodiac runs on a twelve year cycle. Those born in the years 1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024 and 2036 have the dragon as their zodiac symbol.
